Season 2004-5 Reports

17 April

Parker Steel Division 3
Bliby Colts 1 v Kennington Colts 6

Kennington Colts, having already secured the league title, were looking for a win in their final game to also maintain an unbeaten record for the whole season and this was duly achieved with a 6 - 1 win over local rivals Bliby Colts.

Kennington played a patient game with some outstanding passing keeping Bliby on the run and a 2 goal half time lead was achieved when an Ollie Rudd run and cross was well finished by James Cook, followed by a run and shot from Dan Lett which ended up in the net despite the best efforts of the Bliby defence.

The second half saw a first goal of the season from Torin Hammond-Jarvis, whose passing and vision was exceptional all game and despite a goal by Bliby, Kennington continued on the attack. Firstly George Woollaston hit two goals, the second of which being a fine header from a cross from Robbie Thorogood; and then Cook claimed his second, following up on a fierce drive from Rudd which the keeper could only parry.

An excellent end to the season from the whole squad whose teamwork, attitude and performances have been a credit to them all.

19 March

Parker Steel Division 3
Sturry Blues Colts 1 v Kennington Colts 5

This league title decider finally went ahead at Ball Lane after the Sturry pitch was deemed unplayable. A win for top of the league Kennington would clinch the title, whereas a win for second placed Sturry would keep their chances alive and this showed in a very tight first half between two well matched teams. Sam Moore was in fine form in the Kennington goal and the defence was excellently marshalled by the outstanding Luke Hughes, ably supported by Torin Hammond-Jarvis and Charlie Brockwell. At the other end Tom Lightfoot threatened regularly and came close to scoring when he rattled the post with a fierce drive.

Kennington came out fired up for the second half and in 5 minutes Ollie Rudd put Kennington two up, first winning the ball in midfield and driving forward to slot the ball home, and then tapping in after George Woollaston beat the defence before putting in an excellent cross. Sturry’s heads dropped and their lack of substitutes showed as tiredness crept in and when Robbie Thorogood smashed in a third, quickly followed by a Dan Lett conversion Kennington had the league sewn up. There was a brief rally from Sturry and they grabbed a well constructed goal, but straight from the kick off Rudd and Callum Burgess combined before Rudd hammered home his third of the game.

Congratulations should go to both teams for a very sporting game with Sturry guaranteed league runners up despite the result.

19 March

Parker Steel Division 3
Kennington Colts 10 v Betteshanger Colts 2

Kennington Colts started brightly and were soon 2-0 up after Dan Lett crossed for Robbie Thorogood to open the scoring and then George Woollaston and Ollie Rudd combined well for Rudd to slide the ball home.

Concentration then lapsed and by half time Betteshanger were level when twice Kennington failed to clear the ball. Kennington however came out for the second half fired up and when Rudd blasted home a penalty and Thorogood hit his second, Betteshangers defences collapsed.

Woollaston then hit a hat-trick in 5 minutes, the pick of which being a thumping header from a corner, and an own goal was followed by two more from Rudd, the final one being an excellent long range strike just before the final whistle to complete a comprehensive win.

12 March

Parker Steel Division 3
Kennington Colts 2 v Herne Bay Harriers Colts 0

Both sides looked rusty from the enforced break due to bad weather and it was a while before Kennington started creating opportunities. Tom Lightfoot on the right began to create space and was unlucky with a number of opportunities. A break from striker George Woollaston from deep in his own half saw him carry the ball to the Harriers penalty box and a slick pass saw Dan Lett arriving to thump the ball home. Soon after Robbie Thorogood hit the bar and that set the course for the rest of the game.

The second half saw the defence rarely troubled, but Luke Hughes was ever dominant. A Dan Lett turn and cross was met at the far post by Ollie Rudd to force the ball home and Kennington were unfortunate not to add to their tally with close efforts by Rudd, Woollaston and James Cook. The final result of 2 – 0 means that Kennington Colts are now secured promotion with at least second place, and two wins from the last three games will secure the league.

19 February

Parker Steel Division 3
Kennington Colts 3 v FC Stripes Colts 0

Kennington were up against a resolute FC Stripes this Saturday and despite slick passing and movement it wasn’t until the second half that they were able to break down the Stripes defence. Although George Woollaston came close twice early on, but was denied by the woodwork, as was Dan Lett.

However an excellent Kennington move saw Robbie Thorogood create space in midfield and spread the ball wide to Ollie Rudd, who beat the defender and fired in a fine cross which was superbly met by Dan Lett on the far post. Soon after Callum Burgess turned well inside the box to fire home the second and the scoring was completed by Ollie Rudd near the end. With Charlie Brockwell and Torin Hammond-Jarvis confidently clearing up any FC stripes attacks and with goalie Sam Moore in impressive form, the win was always secure.

12 February

Parker Steel Division 3
Ramsgate Youth 1 v Kennington Colts 3

With a strong wind at their backs, Kennington went on the offensive from the start, with wingers Dan Lett and Tom Lightfoot in fine form. However for the first 15 minutes the Ramsgate goalie was equal to the challenge until a handball gave Kennington the lead through a penalty, which was well converted by Lightfoot. Soon after Lett twisted and turned before putting in a cross which was well controlled and finished by George Woollaston and this was quickly followed by Ollie Rudd sliding in the third for Kennington past the Ramsgate goalie.

Despite playing into the wind in the second half, the Colts continued to make chances through strong running from midfield, but the Ramsgate goalie was at his best, denying numerous goal bound opportunities with a string of fine saves. Concentration lapsed briefly and a Ramsgate break from midfield saw them pull one back; however from then on Kennington defended well, with Torin Hammond-Jarvis impressive, to ensure the win.

5 February 2005

Under 9’s Parker Steel Division 3
Monkton Youth 1 v Kennington Colts 2

In a tight match against 3rd placed Monkton, Kennington Colts edged a 2 – 1 win. Monkton started strongly and pinned Kennington back for the first 15 minutes, but solid defending as a team kept Monkton at bay. Gradually Kennington began to break and put pressure on Monkton and this was rewarded when good interchanging between Ollie Rudd and George Woollaston saw Woollaston slot home coolly. This unsettled Monkton and soon after Dan Lett weaved in from the left to slide one into the corner to make it 2 -0 at half time.

The second half saw end-to-end football as both teams tried to dominate the other and Monkton pulled one back from a corner when the ball was forced over the line in a goal-mouth scramble. A fine save by Sam Moore kept the lead with Kennington and despite further opportunities for both teams; the score remained the same to keep Kennington top of the division.

29 January 2005

Under 9 - Parker Steel Division 3
Kennington Colts 7 v Highfield United 0

Kennington started well from the off against local rivals Highfield. With Luke Hughes and Torin Hammond-Jarvis dominating at the back Kennington were able to attack at will and there were several close efforts before Ollie Rudd weaved passed a number of defenders to score the first of the game. The game continued with slick passing and good positional play from Kennington and a great run from George Woollaston was well struck into the back of the net. This was then followed by another strong break from midfield by Robbie Thorogood, who finished confidently to make the score 3-0 at half-time.

Kennington kept up the good play in the second half and a well placed ball was nicely finished off by James Cook. Ollie Rudd then surprised the Highfield goalie with a neat finish into the corner of the net and George Woollaston added his second of the game, before the 7-0 score-line was completed by Callum Burgess in his first game for the club.
