Under 10 Colts Older Season 2005-06 Reports Below 8 January 2006 Kennington Colts turned in their best performance of the season in a 5-1 win against a strong Tyler Hill team, with determined tackling and quality passing never allowing Tyler Hill any control. Luke Hughes, Robbie Thorogood and man of the match Lewis Walkinshaw were quick to close down any potential threat and allow Kennington to attack with speed and determination. A Tom Lightfoot cross was well met on the run by Dan Lett to open the scoring just before half time and early in the second half Lightfoot made it two when he cut inside a defender to drive home from outside the box. Ollie Rudd added a third after rounding the keeper coolly slotting home past two defenders. The move of the match, started by Richie Naylor saw the ball swept from left to right and then centred for George Woollaston to net. Keeper Sam Moore showed his ability to save well from two good long range efforts from Tyler Hill before they grabbed one back, but this spurred Kennington into a final attack which resulted in Lett strongly heading home from a fine Rudd cross for his second of the game. A really excellent performance by all. Well done! 11 December 2005 Kennington Colts took the game to Sturry Blues Colts from the start, with several early chances being well saved by the Blues keeper. The breakthrough came when a corner was only half cleared by Sturry and Robbie Thorogood fired home from distance. Kennington eased off, allowing Sturry to hit the post before equalising, however this spurred Kennington on to dominate the second half, with man of the match Torin Hammond-Jarvis shutting out the Sturry threat and goalie Sam Moore pulling off two quality saves when Sturry occasionally broke through. George Woollaston tormented the Sturry defence and cracked in two excellent goals, the first a thunderous drive from 20 yards. Woollaston then turned provider to set up Ollie Rudd to swivel and fire home Kennington's fourth to complete a fine 4-1 win. 3 December 2005 Parker Steel EKYL Div 2 In their match v’s Snowdon, Kennington Colts U10's started brightly, but found the Snowdon keeper in fine form. Chances fell to Dan Lett, Ollie Rudd and George Woollaston, but none were converted before Snowdon took the lead through a well worked goal. Kennington responded strongly and were soon level from a typical Ollie Rudd run and strike. They continued to push forward, with man of the match Robbie Thorogood dominating midfield, but a rare lapse in defence gave keeper Sam Moore no chance, as Snowdon took the lead once more. Kennington continued to attack and soon George Woollaston restored the balance, following up well on shot from Rudd that was only parried by the keeper. They continued to push on trying to get the win, but Snowdon held strong to leave the game all square. 27 November 2005 The small mud-covered pitch was as much of a challenge as the opposition for Kennington Colts and getting the ball down to play football was never going to be easy. Early exchanges saw chances for both teams before Snowden went 2-0 up due largely to errors by Kennington on the poor pitch. Just before half-time a half-cleared corner was rifled home by Robbie Thorogood to give Kennington the impetus they needed and the second half saw Kennington dominate, with Richie Naylor in fine form at the back. The equaliser came early in the second half through a fine Ollie Rudd run and finish. Dan Lett and George Woollaston created further chances for the team, but the Snowden keeper was equal to the challenge and a break against the run of play with 2 minutes to go saw Snowden regain the lead. However, straight from the kick-off Kennington pushed forward and man-of the-match Rudd fired home his second to draw level once more. There was still time for Rudd to hit the post and Dan Lett to fire just wide, the Colts counting themselves unlucky to have only earned a point. 20 November 2005 Kennington Colts started promisingly against Monkton Youth, with Dan Lett and Lewis Walkinshaw winning the early tussles in midfield. Monkton defended well, with their goalkeeper in fine form all afternoon. Chances fell to George Woollaston and Ollie Rudd before a Monkton defender turned in a cross from Ollie Rudd. Robbie Thorogood then stung the keeper’s fingers with a fine drive whilst, at the other end, Richie Naylor was strong in the challenge, closing down any Monkton threats with fellow defender Luke Hughes. Man of the match Woollaston tormented Monkton on the right creating numerous opportunities and was unfortunate not to get on the score sheet. The second goal rightly came when another run from Rudd caused problems and the ball was again turned in to his own net by a Monkton defender. A brief rally ensued with Monkton scoring from a well-struck free kick but, in the end, Kennington Colts finished worthy winners. 13 November 2005 Kennington Colts began well against an intimidating Margate team, with Torin Hammond-Jarvis and Lewis Walkinshaw solid in defence and Robbie Thorogood turning in a man of the match performance, winning tackles in abundance in midfield. George Woollaston and Ollie Rudd both went close before good passing from Margate saw them sweep downfield to score a fine goal. Kennington continued to try and play football but were thwarted by questionable tactics and poor refereeing. The quality of the game deteriorated and after conceding a second, Kennington were caught twice more, pushing forward for a goal, ending in an undeserved 4-0 loss. 6 November 2005 Kennington U10’s Colts started slowly against Trinity, struggling with the bumpy pitch and windy conditions. Despite Robbie Thorogood’s command of midfield, confusion in defence allowed Trinity the opportunity to go 1-0 up early in the game. Kennington began to master the difficult conditions, with Tom Lightfoot causing problems for the Trinity defence and soon, leading scorer Ollie Rudd levelled after some close control and persistence around the area. An exciting end-to-end game ensued, with Lightfoot, Rudd and Dan Lett threatening the Trinity goal and the woodwork being hit 3 or 4 times. At the other end Luke Hughes turned in a classy man of the match performance, keeping Trinity at bay, ably supported by Torin Hammond-Jarvis. Going forward, Rudd continued to cause a headache for the Trinity defence with several strong runs, one of which ended in him rounding the keeper to slot home for a 2-1 win. This puts Kennington Colts into the Quarter-finals in the new year against Faversham Strikeforce. 23 October 2005 Kennington U10’s Colts shared the points with Herne Bay Harriers in an exciting 3-3 draw. Classy defending from Luke Hughes and Charlie Brockwell early on gave Kennington the edge and midway through the first- half Ollie Rudd found space under pressure and struck home to give Kennington the lead. Excellent teamwork kept the Harriers at bay until half-time, with Robbie Thorogood constantly harassing the Herne Bay midfield. Early in the second half Man of the Match Rudd powered his way through to score his second before Herne Bay fought back with two goals to level the score. Kennington responded immediately with a George Woollaston strike on the turn to regain the lead, but in the dying minutes a Herne Bay penalty after intense pressure levelled at 3-3. The game was not yet over and Kennington were unlucky not to win in the last minute when a Rudd free-kick crashed against the cross-bar. 16 October 2005 Alex Laking Memorial Cup, 1st Round. Despite the kick-off being delayed by 45 minutes waiting for the opposition to arrive, Kennington were quick out of the blocks, with Lewis Walkinshore scoring in the first minute. Man of the Match Walkinshore extended the lead mid-way through the first half after an excellent cross from Tom Lightfoot hit the post and Walkinshore was on hand to force in the rebound. Some slack passing at times from Kennington let Deal create opportunities but goalie Sam Moore was equal to the challenge and he was well supported by some solid defending by Luke Hughes in particular. Kennington continued looking for a third goal in the second half and good pressure from the midfield created a number of chances. The Deal keeper made several fine saves before some good work from Dan Lett on the left found Ollie Rudd, who drove home to complete the 3-0 win. 9 October 2005 Parker Steel EKYL Division 2 Kennington Colts lost their first ever EKYL league match to Dover Athletic in a tightly fought game. Dover started well; putting Kennington on the defensive and were 2-0 up before half time. Kennington responded immediately after the second goal, with an excellent cross from Tom Lightfoot being turned in by Dan Lett to reduce the deficit and this gave Kennington renewed confidence. Kennington came out attacking in the second half and it was Dover’s turn to defend. When Robbie Thorogood turned in the equaliser and Ollie Rudd went close a number of times, Kennington looked most the likely to score. Man of the Match Luke Hughes closed down any Dover attacks, yet an unstoppable drive from 20 yards gave the lead back to Dover. Kennington continued on the offensive and were unlucky not to equalise with several close efforts. In the end, a good team performance after a shaky start. 2 October 2005 Parker Steel EKYL Division 2
Kennington Colts fluid football was too good for Betteshanger CW and they ran out easy 6-0 winners. Ollie Rudd and George Woollaston threatened from the start and it was a Rudd cross that put in Woollaston for the first goal. A Woollaston cross was then forced home by Dan Lett and Woollaston added another with a fine strike. With Lewis Walkinshore impressing in his first game for the club and the defence clearing up neatly the occasional Betteshanger break, all the goal mouth action was at the Betteshanger end. Tom Lightfoot went close a number of times and was thwarted by some good saves from the Betteshanger keeper. Man of the Match Ollie Rudd then took control with a fine hat-trick from some deep running to complete the 6-0 score line. Parker Steel EKYL Div 2. Kennington Colts won their second game of the season in a tough game against Tyler Hill. Early pressure from the visitors was cancelled out by impressive defending from Luke Hughes and Torin Hammond-Jarvis and Kennington then went ahead with a run and drive from Ollie Rudd. This gave Kennington the impetus and with Robbie Thorogood strong in midfield, chances fell to Thorogood, Lett and Lightfoot before a fine cross from Rudd was volleyed home by Daniel Lett, early in the second half. Tyler Hill applied more pressure and reduced the deficit by one, before another cross from Rudd was expertly headed home by George Woollaston. Excellent goalkeeping by man of the match Sam Moore then kept Tyler Hill at bay until just before the end when they scored to make the final score 3-2 to Kennington Colts. Parker Steel EKYL Div 2. Kennington Colts were fired up for their first game of this season against Sturry Blues Colts and after 10 minutes of end-to-end football Ollie Rudd jinked past two defenders and fired the ball into the roof of the net. Sturry came back strongly and despite some good saves from goalie Sam Moore, nudged in an equaliser. This spurred Kennington on and Rudd crossed for George Woollaston to regain their lead, and it was Rudd again that set Woollaston away for a strong run and finish, to give Kennington Colts a 3-1 lead at half-time. The second half was just as entertaining with chances at both ends. Tom Lightfoot and Dan Lett harassed Sturry at every opportunity and with Torin Hammond-Jarvis delivering a man of the match performance at the back; Kennington outsmarted Sturry until just before full time when Sturry scored a fine goal to leave the end result as 3-2 to Kennington Colts. - end - |
